Here are links to mp3 files for a few of our new band pieces!
Grade 6 – Chorale and Recessional and Tatum Square Festival
Grade 7 – Incantation and Ritual and Two Songs of Nova Scotia
You can listen along with the recordings and even play along if you’d like! Just be sure that you don’t rely too much on the tempos, as we might take these pieces slightly faster or slower! Also, listen closely for the excellent phrasing on these recordings!
Here’s a great links to some FREE online metronomes! Now you can practice keeping a steady beat in your pieces with this metronome. Choose the one that you like the best!
Here are the calendars for November and December! Click to view or download.
Our Annual Winter concert will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m. at Pilot Butte School. There will be a small $3 admission charge that goes directly to our fundraising efforts. We will most likely not receive funding from the school division for our Optimist Band Festival performances this year, so we will have a higher level of support from our band parents’ organization, so every little bit helps!
See you there!
Here is a copy of the Grade 7 Trip to Saskatoon permission slip. The trip is scheduled for November 20th and 21st. The permission slip is due on November 5th.
We are in the process of final planning for our trip to Saskatoon in November. The trip is scheduled for November 20th and 21st. We will be leaving on Friday morning and getting back Saturday afternoon. If you are free to chaperone, please send me an email or indicate that on the permission slip when you recieve it (in the next two weeks!)
For all of you Grade 6 Band students, we can DOWNLOAD the backing tracks for the tunes in our Red Book (Standards of Excellence Book One).

These tracks definitely make practicing a lot more fun! Enjoy!
Our first fundraiser is now out! We’re selling 20lb boxes of apples (Spartan / Macintosh or Golden Delicious) for $18 / box. If you have friends and family who make pies, tarts, apple butter, etc, let them know that these apples are great and help support our programs!

Here they are! These will be handed out during the first week of school, so check the bags, or download the copy here! You may notice that our lunch rehearsal days have changed slightly. Grade 8 – Day 1, Grade 7 – Day 3 and Grade 6 – Day 5. Also, due to the division wanting more equitable full rehearsal bus funding, we will be cutting back on our Pilot Butte / McLean lunch rehearsal trips. These dates are still being confirmed, but will most likely include the 3 rehearsals before a concert. Stay tuned for confirmation on that!

Our Grade 6 and 7 Headstart clinic will be held at Balgonie Elementary School from Tuesday, Sept. 15th to Thursday, September 17th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. each evening. This is a VERY important time for our young musicians so please make every effort to be there for all of it (or as much as you possibly can!)
We will also be holding our Buffalo Plains East Music Parents Association (BPEMPA) Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15th from 6:00 – 7:30 in the Balgonie Elementary School library. This is a very important meeting for ALL band parents, so please plan on attending. We really need your help and your input in order to continue to have a successful program that includes all of the extra things we do in our program, including our Festival performances, Headstart clinics and our concert trips! We need your help and input!
